Challenge
Khanh Hoa was one of the most attractive destinations in Vietnam in the period 2015-2019 with the growth rate of accommodation gradually increasing over the years from 611 hotels and resorts in 2015 to 1082 establishments in 2019, distributed independently in three different regions. However, besides the growth in number, the supply-demand relationship of accommodation in Khanh Hoa showed signs of imbalance, as the number of guests per accommodation establishment decreased, which led to the reduced average occupancy of the whole hotel system. To ensure the effectiveness of investment and accommodation business in the special local situation, Vinh Nha Trang Investment Group needed to have an overview and in-depth view of the entire accommodation system in Khanh Hoa in both aspects of accommodation supply and tourism demand, as well as the correlation of these two components.
Approach
Outbox conducted a comprehensive research to fully consider the local aspects and specific characteristics of the accommodation model in Khanh Hoa, analyzing the relationship between supply and demand of the local accommodation industry, determining the characteristics and size of the Khanh Hoa accommodation market through distribution area, segmentation status and competition level by type of accommodation. An in-depth interview (IDI) survey of more than 10 General Managers from hotels representing the segments was also conducted to complete the study.
Insight
After more than two months of conducting the study, the data collection helped us to clearly define the outstanding features of the Khanh Hoa accommodation market. They included the current supply and demand picture, the detailed characteristics of the segments, which successfully shaped the local accommodation supply value chain; thereby providing the departments of Nha Trang Bay Investment Group a solid basis for building the right investment and business strategy in Khanh Hoa in the future.
