The tourism performance in the Southeast Asia region remains stable at the end of November 2023, with a recovery rate of 69% and a slight 8.6% increase in international tourist arrivals from 6,305,273 to 6,848,012. Cambodia and Indonesia remain as the two countries surpassing the target, now joined by the 3rd addition of the Philippines.
In November 2023, the positions in categories maintain stability with minimal changes.
- Thailand remains the top destination for international tourists in Southeast Asia.
- Vietnam follows in second place with an approximately 11% increase in international tourist arrivals, taking the 2nd place of Singapore compared to October.
- Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia saw a slight increase in international tourists, whereas Singapore and Indonesia witnessed a modest decrease compared to the previous month.
- Malaysia has yet to fully update its tourism statistics, with information available only until September.
RECOVERY AND TOURISM TARGET RATE
The recovery rates across Southeast Asian countries remain relatively steady, showing slight fluctuations with no notable breakthroughs compared to the previous month.
All countries have made significant strides towards achieving their 2023 tourism targets, with Cambodia, Indonesia, and the Philippines surpassing their goals, while Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam also experienced notable increases.
HIGHLIGHTS
The top three Southeast Asian destinations with the highest number of international visitors in November 2023:
- Thailand: 2,637,077 international visitors, a 20% increase compared to October 2023
- Vietnam: 1,233,371 international visitors, an 11% increase compared to the previous month.
- Singapore: 1,110,000 international visitors in a shift to the second position, now taken by Vietnam, a 2% decrease compared to October 2023.
In terms of Recovery rate:
- Cambodia achieved a recovery rate of 84.75%
- Thailand achieved a recovery rate of 77.87%
- Singapore achieved a recovery rate of 72.55%.
In terms of Aviation:
For domestic routes, The Hanoi (HAN) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) route continued to be the most popular route in Southeast Asia, with a slight increase of 6.7% compared to November, totaling 882,026 seats. Following the HAN-SGN route is the Jakarta (CGK) to Kota Makassar (UPG) route with 599,786 seats, and to Denpasar-Bali (DPS) with 571,439 seats, experiencing a slight increase in capacity.
For international routes, Singapore remained an important hub in Southeast Asia, with seven out of the top ten international routes in the region either starting or ending there. The routes from Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Jakarta (CGK), and Bangkok (BKK) to Singapore (SIN) were still the busiest international routes in the region. Specifically, there was a 7.7% increase from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, a 10% increase from Jakarta, and a 6.8% decrease from Bangkok.
