With a favorable geographical position with a 3,260km coastline, diverse terrain with three-quarters being hilly, and the tropical monsoon climate, Vietnam indeed has a lot of potential to boost golf tourism, and become one of the world’s leading golf destinations.
About 10 years ago, Vietnam was named “Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year” by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators. Just five years later, the World Golf Awards has honored Vietnam as “Asia’s Best Golf Destination”. In 2019, Vietnam surpassed 7 other nominees to receive the title of “World’s Best Golf Destination” at the World Golf Awards.
Golf in Vietnam continues to grow rapidly. In 2019, Forbes rated Vietnam as the fastest growing golf market in the world.
In 2020, there were about 80 golf courses across the country, of which at least one third reached international 5-star standards, attached to luxury resorts. The total number of golf courses is expected to increase to 200 by 2025, with at least 300,000 players, including Vietnamese, expats and tourists.
Every month of the year offers a perfect golf holiday somewhere in Vietnam. If from November to April are the ideal months to play golf in the North when the weather is dry and cool, then February to May will be the best time to play golf in the Central region. As for the stable weather of the South, it will be an ideal area for year-round golf playing.
With many sloping areas, gentle terrain, combined with a climate that is said to be perfect for sports events all year round, and high quality golf courses run by world famous golfers, according to experts, the golf tourism in Vietnam still has a lot of room to exploit and develop.
