In its list of the best new journeys in the world in 2023, Wanderlust, the UK’s travel magazine, suggests readers to visit Vietnam.
Accordingly, the names selected by tourism experts have a common point of experience, cultural discovery, history, and nature, instead of resort. Tourists should visit Vietnam – Cambodia on a joint itinerary. Wanderlust suggests this as a leisurely trip, starting from Southern Vietnam and ending at the temples of Angkor in Cambodia. Visitors can go through the Mekong Delta to see the floating markets, the flooded forests, and the life of the people living in the river.
Crossing the border, they can visit Kep fishing village, a pepper farm, fish market, national park, and the riverside town of Kampot. Followed by a short day trip to the capital Phnom Penh, travelers can cruise along the Mekong River, enjoy food, drive to Battambang town, and take a boat to Tonle Sap Lake. After that, they will go to Siem Reap and end the journey with two days of exploring the Angkor complex. The whole trip duration is at least 16 days.
Other Asian destinations also mentioned in the list are Korea, Japan, Sri Lanka, or Mongolia. In Japan, tourism experts suggest that visitors spend time learning more about the people’s way of life and culture, such as the wabi-sabi (accepting imperfection) lifestyle. Must-have experiences when coming here include learning about meditation, forest bathing, soaking in hot springs, cooking at home, and attending tea ceremonies.
Like Japan, the journey to Sri Lanka is also about wellness through immersion in nature and the local community. Some recommended activities are yoga, forest bathing, cooking, volunteering, and spending the night in local accommodations. These activities give visitors mental strength, peace of mind, and improved health.
In addition, Wanderlust also suggests some other familiar destinations such as Canada, the USA, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Greenland, Iceland, and Peru.
